Advent in Haiku was originally envisioned as an advent calendar (and someday may be one).

1.

Why so small a god
dozing in its mother's womb?
Why so great the need?
2.

Inhale velvet frost
before the late suns sweeps it
jealously away
3.

Delivery trucks
fill leaf-deserted spaces--
silhouette bijoux
4.

New constellations
Winter webs that hang from eaves
Worlds: white, green, red, blue
5.

Dance, nutcracker, dance!
Leap and reap the Clara hearts
in the mezzanine
6.

Lawns dream of pillows
Airborne snow lacks gravitas
and so floats in clouds
7. Saint Nicholas Day (Saturday #1)

Scent-mingled orange,
shoe and chocolate revive
the lingering saint
8.

When the carol ends
the parishioners seek home
and the snow begins
9.

I hope it snows soon
The sugar plum children sigh
as crystal grass snaps
10.

New origami
creasing corners defining
loving spaces filled
11. Tree hunting

Fresh piney angels
sleep-frozen in woody rows
are freed with each rasp
12.

The evergreen wreath
An ancient pagan circle
Weaves eternity
13. Mistletoe

The druid's doorway
embracing fertility
plucks pouting maidens
14. St. Lucia Day (Saturday #2)

Lucy, saint of light
is multiplied in candles,
reflected in smiles
15.

The treetop angel
silver as the song of spheres
sings silent noel
16.

Snow-sprinkled sparrows
chatter above and among
excited shoppers
17.

Pulses quicken at
the thrill of pine sap warming
cheek and needle flush
18. Three Kings

Sun-dazzled magi
star gazing travel kingward
bearing rich tribute
19.

Shimmering hearth light
shines in branch-born memories'
glass-blown reflection
20.

This time of kinship
counters the diaspora
of modern commerce
21.

I saw Santa Claus
in his grotto full of elves,
cotton so like snow
22. Hannukah begins

The alternative
to dark is light--strike the match
and celebrate life
23.

The proclamation
calls flock-enamored shepherds
to praise the new lamb
24.

The yule log is blessed
Sparking hearth spirits, it pops
later shimmering
25.

Teddy ear-whispers
Dolly hugs with certainty
Kringle treads below
26.

How so great a god
dozing in its mother's arms?
Love will fill the need
