Tell me what you want to hear

But there are some limits (see the bottom of the page for caveats)!

Request your song here!

1) Please do not assume I will play it, just because you ask for it.
A DJ is not a jukebox, and there are many reasons I will or won't play your song, including but not limited to:
(a) I don't like it. This is not a rule so much as a guideline. The more I dislike a song, the less inclined I am to play it. Also, I play lots of songs that I normally don't listen to, but that doesn't mean I like or don't like them.
(b) The crowd doesn't/won't like it. Contrary to popular myth, the fact that a person and his/her 5 friends LOVE a song is rarely an automatic indication of that song's popularity.
(c) It doesn't fit in with what I'm playing. This is less likely to happen when I know ahead of time that I want to fit it in, because I can plan around playing it.
(d) It's too much like what I just played. This is normally because I've played 3 or more similar songs and that style is becomming boring. Again, if I can plan ahead, it's easier to avoid this problem.
(e) I've already played it. We don't repeat songs, except in very unusual circumstances. Your REALLY wanting to hear it is not an unusual circumstance. The later you come to the bar, the later you request the song, the greater the chances of this happening to you.
(f) It's too late in the night to play it. This might mean you ask for a song when I've already filled my song queue for the night. See (e).
(c) and (d) (e) and (f) are usually the result of immediate requests in the bar, so if you request a song in the bar and it doesn't get played, one of or a combination of these is usually why it's not played..
(g) I don't have the song:
(i) While I try to stay current, I do have limitations on how many radio stations/cds/websites and can hear. (ii) If it's not commercially available, I won't have it. So if it's being seeded on the radio or MTV or online and hasn't been released yet, please don't expect me to play it. (iii) It's that awesome remix that only you and your friends know about. It's probably not available commercially, and it's definitely unfamiliar to the crowd, so please don't expect me to play it. (h) It just doesn't fit in. As awesome as the new Dub song may be, or the latest Salsa hit, or the cleverest Country Folk cover of a Rolling Stones song ever made may be, that doesn't mean it's suitable for the bar. I love Mozart, but you won't hear me playing it in the bar.
(h addendum) That said, hey, ask, you never know.
(i) I forgot. Oops! Sorry!
